Scholarships and Awards

Social Sciences Division awards

Undergraduate students in the Legal Studies Program are eligible for a wide range of scholarships and awards from the Division of Social Sciences. Applications for two of these programs are coordinated through the Department of Politics:

  • The Gabriel Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship supports students interested in social issues and public service.
  • The Benjamin Quaye Memorial Endowment for Social Justice is for students who are pursuing educational and career goals in social justice.

Deans’, Chancellor’s, and Steck Awards

These awards recognize exceptional achievements in research projects or other creative activities, encourage outstanding scholarship, and promote research as an important part of undergraduate education. Students may apply for the awards based on research projects they produced in courses taken in the prior three quarters and will need to identify a faculty sponsor to write a letter in support of their application.

Judy Yung Memorial Scholarship

The Critical Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) Department invites all UCSC students to apply for funding to support research geared toward the preservation of oral histories and engagement with community archives related to Asian, Asian diaspora, Pacific Islander, and Pacific Islander diaspora communities. Preference is given to CRES majors and Black studies minors and graduate students with a designated emphasis in CRES, but we encourage all interested legal studies majors to apply.
